The preview is a simulation to help you judge artwork, not a photograph. Real projections pick up more texture from the surface and are brighter at the center than the edge.
What you get with a custom gobo
A gobo is the small disc that sits inside a projector, between the light and the lens. Light gets through the clear or open parts and your image lands on the wall. A custom gobo is simply one made from your artwork instead of a catalog pattern.
There are two ways to make one. Steel gobos are laser-cut from thin stainless sheet, like a very precise stencil. Glass gobos start as a sheet of heat-resistant glass with a reflective coating, and the coating is etched away where light should pass. Color glass gobos stack colored layers or print the color right in, so a two-tone logo comes out two-tone.
Which you want depends on your logo, and the studio above shows you why in about ten seconds. Letters with closed holes (A, B, D, O, P, Q, R, 4, 6, 8, 9, 0) are the usual troublemakers in steel.

Custom gobo artwork that projects well
Most disappointing gobos come from artwork that looks great on a phone screen. Light is less forgiving. Run your file past this list.
Send vector if you have it
PDF, SVG, AI or EPS keep edges clean at any size. Our G10 order form asks for a PDF. A high-res PNG on a transparent background works for previewing here.
Bold beats thin
Hairline strokes and small taglines fall apart on brick and concrete. If a line is thinner than roughly 1/100 of the logo width, thicken it or drop it for the gobo version.
Decide what’s light and what’s dark
A gobo projects the open parts. Most logos project the mark itself. Some look better reversed, as a disc of light with the logo cut out. Flip it in the studio and compare.
Keep it inside the circle
The image area is round. Wide wordmarks end up small, so stack them onto two lines or lead with the icon.
Skip gradients for steel
Steel is on or off. Soft shadows and gradients either vanish or turn blotchy. Glass handles them, and full-color glass handles photos.
Mind the text size at distance
A slogan that reads at 3 m disappears at 12 m. The throw calculator shows how big your whole logo lands, so you can judge the lettering.

A welcome mark or your hours at the door, switched on by a timer at dusk. It’s a sign that can’t blow over.

A restaurant crest over the host stand, or a pattern across a bar’s back wall that changes with the season.

What is a custom gobo?
A gobo disc made from your own artwork, such as a logo, monogram or message, instead of a stock pattern. Placed in a gobo projector, it projects that image onto a wall, floor or building.
How much does a custom gobo cost?
From gobo makers, a single custom steel gobo is typically around $100–$150, one-color glass a little more, and full-color glass several hundred dollars. With the INNAYA G10, one custom lens is included in the projector price.
What file do I need for a custom gobo?
Vector artwork (PDF, SVG, AI or EPS) gives the cleanest edges. For the G10 we ask for a PDF uploaded on the product page. Bold shapes and solid colors project best.
Glass or steel: which custom gobo should I choose?
Steel for simple, bold, one-color logos on a budget. Glass when your logo has fine detail, enclosed letters you don’t want bridged, or more than one color.
What are bridges on a gobo?
Thin tabs of metal that hold floating pieces, like the center of an O, in place on a steel gobo. They show up as fine dark lines in the projection. Glass gobos don’t need them.
Can I change the image later?
Yes. Swap the lens for a new one. Email orders@innaya.store with your new artwork for a quote on extra G10 lenses.
Will a custom gobo work in daylight?
Gobos are projected light, so they look best from dusk onward outdoors, or indoors where the lighting isn’t too bright. The throw calculator factors that in.
