How a wedding monogram light works
It’s a gobo projector: a small spotlight with a custom lens (the “gobo”) made from your monogram. Point it at the dance floor and your initials appear in light, crisp at the edges and glowing in the middle. Some couples put it on the wall behind the head table instead, or over the cake, or at the entrance so it’s the first thing guests see.
Most couples rent one for the night from a lighting company or their DJ. That works. But the price of a single rental is close to the price of owning one outright, which surprises people. More on that math below.
A traditional couple’s monogram puts the shared last-name initial larger in the middle, with first initials on either side. Plenty of couples now just use two first initials and an ampersand. There’s no wrong answer. It’s your floor.
Monogram lighting: rent or own?
National rental services we checked in 2026 charge about $110 for a basic five-day rental and around $250 for a package with a custom black-and-white gobo, before color upgrades. Here’s how that stacks up against keeping a G10.

Setting up on the day
Ten minutes with a ladder or a lighting stand. Here’s what to hand the venue coordinator.
Choose the spot for the size you want
With the G10, the monogram comes out about one-third as wide as the throw. Straight down from a 4 m (13 ft) ceiling gives roughly a 1.3 m (4 ft) monogram. For a bigger floor monogram, put it on a stand 6–8 m back and aim across the floor. That gives about 2–2.7 m (6.5–9 ft).
Aim, then focus
Point it where the couple’s first dance will be, then turn the focus ring until the thinnest line is sharp. A slight angle stretches the monogram a little, which looks natural on a floor.
Tame the room lights
Monograms glow when the lights drop. Ask the venue to dim the area over the dance floor, or switch off the uplighting that points at that spot.
Tape the cable
Run the power cord along a wall or under a rug and tape it down. Guests in heels and a dark dance floor don’t mix with loose cables.
Leave it on all night
It’s LED, so it runs cool and draws about 70 W. It won’t heat the room or trip a breaker.

It’s the photo everyone takes during the first dance, shot from a balcony or the stairs.
Behind the head table
On a draped wall it frames every toast photo. Sheer fabric softens the edges beautifully.
At the entrance
On the path or foyer floor as guests arrive. Pair the monogram with the date.
On the tent or barn
The G10 is IP67 weatherproof. After sunset it will throw your monogram onto the side of a barn or a tent.

Monogram light questions
What is a wedding monogram light?
A gobo projector fitted with a custom lens of the couple’s monogram. It projects the monogram in light onto the dance floor, a wall or a backdrop during the reception.
How big will the monogram be on the dance floor?
With the G10, about one-third of the distance from projector to floor. From a 4 m (13 ft) ceiling that’s roughly 1.3 m (4 ft). Projected across the floor from 6–8 m away, it’s about 2–2.7 m (6.5–9 ft).
Is it cheaper to rent or buy a monogram gobo light?
For a single wedding, renting and buying cost about the same. Rentals run from roughly $110 to $250 or more, and a G10 with one custom lens is in that range. From the second event on, owning is cheaper.
Can a monogram light project in color?
Yes. The simplest route is a warm white or tinted light. Full-color artwork needs a color glass lens, so email us your design first and we’ll confirm how it will reproduce.
Will the venue allow it?
Almost always. It’s a small plug-in LED light that runs cool, no different from uplighting. Check with the coordinator about where power outlets are and whether you can use their ceiling or truss.
What can we do with it after the wedding?
Couples use theirs for anniversaries, lend it to friends’ weddings, or order a second lens with a house name or family crest for the porch. It’s a projector, so any future design just needs a new lens.
