Two very different things are sold as a Christmas hologram projector
Search the term and you’ll find two products that share a name and not much else.
Window projector kits are small video projectors that come with a sheer screen you hang inside a window. After dark, a Santa or a choir of ghosts appears on the fabric. They’re inexpensive, great fun for a house on a dark street, and useless in daylight or in a lit shop, where the screen just looks like a gray curtain.
Hologram fans are what shops use. The image is drawn in mid-air by spinning LEDs, bright enough to hold up with the shop lights on. There’s no screen to hang, and the dark parts of the picture really are see-through. They cost more, and they work every day of the year, not just in December.

First week of November

Setting up a Christmas hologram window
An hour, a ladder and a plug-in timer.
Hang it 20–50 cm behind the glass
Close enough to read from the sidewalk, far enough that reflections don’t sit on top of the image. Center it at head height for passersby.
Keep bright lights out from behind it
The fan looks best against a darker part of the display. Put the garland and string lights around it, not directly behind.
Load a few loops
Santa, a sale loop and your logo. Switch between them from the app on your phone over the fan’s Wi-Fi.
Put it on a timer
December dusk comes early. Set it to come on mid-afternoon and switch off an hour after closing, so evening walkers still see it.
Film it for socials
People share windows that move. Lock your phone’s exposure, film from the sidewalk at night, and post it with your hours.
What to buy for a holiday window
For most shop windows the H23 is the one. Smaller windows and counters suit the H16, and big department-store glass suits the H39.
